How can you tell if your child is ready for kindergarten? Every year, thousands of children are sent off to school for the first time, lacking the skills and preparation they need to fit in and keep up with their classmates.

One way to know is to visit this handy little website with your preschooler. Take the Dora Beyond the Backpack quiz, and you’ll get a readout of your child’s readiness. Also a preparation packet of learning materials, hints and tips for parents, a learning guide and two free downloads of fun and educational Dora the Explorer children’s books – all totally free!

The quiz touches on a number of skills needed for school, including basic ABC’s and 123’s; social skills like sharing, cooperating and showing independence; and basic eating and sleeping habits and how ready your child is for playing with others.

It’s brought to you by the PTA and Nickelodeon – and while you’re there you can join the local branch of your Parent/Teacher Association. Get to know other parents in your area as well as the teachers your child will be working with as they grow. It’s never to early to get involved, and Dora makes the process fun and easy!
