Sun Tzu was a Chinese military general, as well as a brilliant strategist and philosopher. He is thought to have lived between around 544 BC and 496 BC, and he's been a huge influence on Chinese and Asian culture, through legend, and through this book: “The Art of War.”

According to legend, myth, and a bit of actual history, Sun Tzu was supposedly a great general for the King Helu, and the victories Sun Tzu won for this king inspired him to write “The Art of War.”

One legend claims that the king tested Sun Tzu's abilities as a general by having him train 180 concubines to be soldiers, which he eventually succeeded in doing, but not before having to kill a couple to get his point across.

“The Art of War” isn't just popular with military strategists, though. It's also found a home in the business world, as well, since it discusses strategy in a broad sense, and can be adapted to almost any conflict.
