If you check out the McDonald's® website, you’ll see that the their McCafe Mochas are made from freshly ground espresso beans, steamed milk (whole or non-fat), rich whipped cream and decadent chocolate syrup and drizzle. It's an espresso treat that hard to pass up, especially if it's free. That's right, now till August 3, from 7am to 7pm, you can stop by a participating McDonald's® for a free sample of either the 7-ounce Iced Mochas or the 8-ounce Hot Mocha. Although no purchase is necessary, they do ask that everyone abide by the condition to sample one free product per visit per customer.
In a press release, they estimated that around 10 million samples will be giving away. That is no small feat and sounds very costly. However, I praise them for it's a very gutsy play on their part in an attempt to win over coffee lovers and pull market share from their more established rivals like Starbucks® and The Coffee Bean®. Granted that McDonald's® is no Starbucks®, but a free caffeine buzz is a free caffeine buzz. So whether you like start your day with a cup of hot mocha or cool off your evenings with a cup of iced mocha, you can do so through the McDonald's® Mocha Monday freebie promotion. Even if you are a hardened Starbucks fan, you should thank McDonald's® for helping to reduce the number of people in line ahead of you, at least till August 3 anyways.

The coffee is hit or miss.
The coffee is hit or miss. Sometimes it tastes good and other times it's horrible, but it's convenient because of the drive thru.

Not As Good As Starbucks
I think mochas from Starbucks are better...although I definitely prefer free!
Even though I like the taste of Starbucks better, I still get McCafes from Mc Donalds from time to time since they came out. It just is that the drive-thrus are so convenient.
The real issue with McDonald's mochas is the inconsistency. Sometimes I get a decent one, and sometimes they aren't very good at all. I haven't narrowed it down by locations, so perhaps it just depends which employee happens to be making it. Perhaps they need better training on the new espresso drinks.
