Make A Difference Day was started by USA Weekend in 1992, and since then, it's grown into the single largest community service effort in the United States. Every fourth Saturday in October, three million people pitch in world wide, getting corporations, politicians, charity organizations, and average folks like you and me to help out the less fortunate. It's pretty amazing!

Stumped on what to do for a project? Why not coordinate with your local Humane Society, and set up a pet adoption day for animals in your local shelter? Get together a group of volunteers to clean up local parks or highways. Hold a health awareness day centering on breast cancer or obesity, and line up guest speakers, plan some activities, and take donations. Feed the homeless for a day. There are tons of ways to help!
