eBooks are rapidly changing the way publishers sell and market books. It’s a fascinating phenomenon, and an exciting time to be involved in the transition between the old school and the new ways technology is changing our world.

The music industry has gone on the attack, prosecuting downloaders of songs and ruthlessly decrying piracy wherever they find it. Likewise, the movie industry and video game giants are putting DRM on their products and annoying their legal customers in attempts (thus far fruitless) to thwart the people they accuse of stealing.

Meanwhile, book publishers are slowly coming to realize that readers love free samples. That once a reader has tried an author, they’ll likely read them again. It’s why libraries have been good for the book business, even though at first glance you might be tempted to think ‘why would anyone buy a book when they can read it at the library for free?’ There are libraries in just about every town in the country, and people are still buying books.

So while the music, movie, and video game marketers are frothing at the mouth, book publishers are offering free books for download all over the place. And readers are loving it – loving it and returning to buy later, which means everyone wins!

Suvudu is a great site, with free downloads of some great Science Fiction titles – all available totally free in .pdf format, so you can save them and read them at your leisure, or just bookmark the url. Many are also available in other formats, like Kindle, Barnes&Noble eReader, Sony Reader, Scribd or more.
