Folks, I don't usually do this, but I'm going to suggest some "cyber-acrobatics".
Regal Cinemas are giving away two hundred movie tickets - good at any of their 542 movie theaters in 37 states. The contest is free to enter, and that's the good news.
The bad news is that they've set up the contest in a facebook app that may spams your friend list with advertising for Regal Cinemas.
I don't blame Regal, really. I'm sure they hired an ad company who convinced them that this was a great way to get their name out there. Be seen by thousands of people - for every person who signs up to win the free tickets, dozens more will see the facebook blurb on their news feed! It's aggressive marketing, it's targeted advertising, and it's probably several other industry buzzwords.
It's also annoying. I've defriended people who pester my Facebook page with ads and apps that want me to click this to see that and so on. Maybe you have, too.
So, here's what you do. Make a dummy Facebook account, with your name and your email address. (Use a common nickname if you can - Richards can use Dick, Margarets can use Peggy, and so on) because if you do win, you don't want to have trouble claiming your prize. Likewise, you'll need to get the email that says you won. But the rest of the info on the dummy Facebook can be as vague or made-up as you like. Friends list on that account can be empty, too - nobody to spam, see? That way you can enter to win the free tickets without pestering your pals!
Good luck winning the tickets!
